Colgin Winery is located high above Lake Hennessey in the hills east of Napa Valley.  The winery’s design takes advantage of the beautiful views of the surrounding hills and a steeply contoured site.  The winery is “gravity flow” with the grapes arriving on the upper level.  A circular building allows the grapes to fan out into a number of fermentation tanks.  Down below the fermented wine is then transferred into the barrel rooms that are dug out of the hillside using the earth to help keep the wine at cellar temperatures as it barrel ages.  The adjacent residence is a great place to entertain guests wanting to be immersed in the wine making experience.
