PHILOSOPHY

Your construction project, whether a new residence or small remodel to your existing home, is a big investment in your future.  I understand how important your project is.  I listen to your wants, needs, desires, and dreams.  Using that information and working with your site or existing structure, I strive to provide the inspiration and design to produce a project that exceeds your expectations.  My goal is to bring your dreams to reality.

I like designs that are clean, simple and straightforward, yet inspire the inhabitants.  A good design should make your life more organized, less stressful, and bring a smile to your face as you contemplate beauty of the materials or details used.  A good design expresses the quality of the craftsmanship used to build it, is conscious of the environment and conscientious of the energy it uses.

I take pride in the architectural services I provide.  I produce all my work in a timely manner and have never missed a deadline that I committed to.  My construction drawings are very clear and concise.  I get recommendations from contractors who see a lot of plans and appreciate the clarity of mine and how well the details are thought out.  The easier the project is for the contractor, the less costly and stressful it is for the owner.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I have a degree in architectural engineering.  I do all of my own structural engineering on residential projects.  This seamless integration of structural engineering and architecture not only saves a client money on fees but also improves the design and solves the lack of coordination than can arise when an architect hires an outside structural engineer that isn’t thoroughly familiar with the design and aesthetics of the project.

I have over 30 years experience working for six different architectural firms. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture in 1981.  Realizing the importance correlating the structural engineering with the building aesthetics, I obtained a second Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering in 1982 from Cal Poly.  I passed the rigorous architectural licensing exam and was granted a California Architects License, C-17131, in 1987.  I worked first in Cambria then in several firms in the Bay Area from 1980 through 1989 designing everything from residences, office buildings, parking structures, retirement care facilities, chip manufacturing plants, to clean rooms.  In 1989 I moved to Napa to work for William Jeffries Associates.  From 1994 through 2007, I worked for Valley Architects in St. Helena designing wineries, offices, and residences.  I founded my own firm, Terry Tracy Architect, in 1987.

I love living in the Napa Valley and am excited about the future and working to make Napa a livable, beautiful, environmentally friendly community.  I also appreciate Napa’s history and am appreciative of the rich diversity of architectural styles in Napa’s old buildings.  I served as the vice-chair of the City of Napa’s Cultural Heritage Commission, was president of the Eagle Cycling Club, and was Vice-Chair of Napa County Bicycle Coalition.
